There are many possible side effects of Provigil, and dry mouth appears to be one of them. This side effect was reported in up to 4 percent of people taking the medication during clinical studies. If you are taking Provigil and dry mouth occurs, you can try sipping on water or sugarless drinks often, avoiding caffeinated drinks, and avoiding tobacco or alcohol.

- Chew sugarless gum or suck on sugarless hard candy to stimulate saliva flow; cinnamon- or mint-flavored candies are good choices.

At this time, it is not known exactly how Provigil works to promote wakefulness. The medicine does not work like other stimulants.
